Payroll Process

Since most of the people will come from big companies from India, definitely payroll process of the consultancy seems different here. Most of the consultancies never pay salaries when you are out of project/on bench, of course it’s really hard to digest for the new comers but its known fact to everyone and most of the people are working in the similar way. Of course there are very few consultancies which are paying from the first day you land here irrespective of whether you are into project or not.

Most of the consultancies will pay for every 2 weeks that is for 15days, few will pay for every 4 weeks that is once in a month like in India. But for every project this cycle starts after 4 weeks means even if your consultancy is running paychecks (Salary) for every 2 weeks, but for the first project they will keep first 15 days pay with them in hold and they will pay to you at the end of the project. So you will receive your first paycheck after one month, later on you will receive pay for every 15 days. Suppose if you get any gap between project to project again same scenario repeats. This is also known scenario in U.S at desi consultancies.

When you are out of project they will pay the medical insurance for you and once you get the project again they will collect the money back which they spent on you when you were on bench. Though this is illegal in U.S they are dare enough to make this kind of mistakes. So we cannot do anything.

Some consultancies are making people to write a bond stating that you have to be for certain period of time say 1 or 2 years, but as per my knowledge bonds wont workout here, they cannot do anything with that even if we leave. Here there is lot of flexibility to the employee in case if you want to shift to any other company.

Legally consultancies should bare the H1b processing fee & fee of educational evolution, since lot of people are ready to pay their processing fee while they are applying for the H1b process, consultancies also taking that as an advantage. Some are doing like 50%-50% basis and after completion of 6 months/ 1 year with them few are paying amount they have charged for H1b processing back to the employee, by calling this type of scenario’s as security deposits.
