India 2 USA (Checklist)

The following items are required for you, where as all others you can buy them here.

1. God Photos: I’m starting with this as a good sign, bring God photos as u like and pooja needs (Sandal wood powder you will not get here,Termaric powder,Sindhur,Agarbathi initially).

2. Laggauge bags: Buy two suitcases which can carry up to 23 kgs (almost all the flights are allowing only this much of language). Much costlier ones are not necessary, medium price bags will do why because during journey most of the suitcases get damaged.

3.Hand / Cabin lagguage: One trolley bag which carries 8kgs (mostly they don't check the weight of this bag but it's always advisable that u carry exactly or 1 or 2 kgs extra than actual weight (8kgs).if they get any doubt they will surely check it) .

For list of permitted & prohibited items you can visit following site

http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm#10

4. International Driving License: Better to have this while coming to U.S. Initially till you get U.S diving license it will be very useful for us here. We can drive a car right away after we come here with this. Depending on the state we are staying, we can use this only for certain period of time.(For example in some states we can use this for 3 months and in some for about 6 months and in some for about 1 year).

5. Cosmetics: You can put all your cosmetics and small stuff in your check in lagguage. Since they will throw all these stuff if you keep those in cabin / hand lagguage.

6. Bindhi’s: Very important and essential thing for Indian ladies. You will not get these here so bring as much as possible

7. One passport wallet: One wallet for your passport which fits in your hand luggage bag. Get all your certificates and H1/H4 docs whatever you have. Keep all your docs and imp stuff in your hand luggage.

8. Pressure Pan: 1.5 lts pressure pan will do you can use this in 2 ways, for keeping idli plates and as a cooker

9. Idli plates: Minimum 3-4 plates required.

10. Mixer: Mixer is must (you better buy Preethi chefpro plus (550W) as it suits exactly to US voltage without any modifications like cable alterations and all. Tell the shop keeper that you are taking it to US so he/she will show you the exact one, because in India also same brand is available. Both looks almost similar but only plug differs.

11. Dosa pan: One Medium size (All these are required initially).

12. Steel bowls: Few

13. Steel glasses: At least two

14. Coffee / Tea Cups : You won't get medium size cups here as we get in India.

15. Mug: At least one since we used to this a lot in India (We hardly find this here)

16. Umberella: Get this if you have space

17. Cooking spoons: Few

18. Serving spoons: Few

19. Medicines: for minimum problems like fever, cold, allergy, headache, stomach ache, few antibiotics for viral fevers - go to a known doctor and ask for a prescription telling that you are going to US. They will cover all the minimal medicines required here.

20. Pain relief medicines: Get pain relief balms like Zandubalm, muscle pain relief balm, burnol, backache relief balms etc.

21. Pickles: These are your wish depending on your weight.

22. Food items: Get Karapodilu, ghee, tamarind, homemade masala powder as you like. Initially get mustard seeds, Jeera, Chilli powder, Rasam /Sambar powder, biryani masala items, Elachi .(All these will be available here in Indian stores but they are costly).

23. Mat (Chaapa in telugu): will be more useful till u buy furniture/Bed and later also it’s useful

24. Laptop: Get if you already have, otherwise you can buy in the U.S (The weight this is included with 8kgs hand /cabin lagguage weight).

25. Slippers: At least 1 pair initially

26. Tooth Brush & Tongue Cleaners: At least 2 pairs (You hardly find tongue cleaners here)

33. Knife: Keep this in your check in lagguage

34. Peeler: Keep this in your check in lagguage

35. Stick for making Chapati

36. Kavvam: For making butter milk

37. Home made Sweets: As per your interest

38. Towels: Few

39. Needle and thread: At least one each

40. Important CD's

41. Spectacles

42. Inner wear

43. Head / Micro phones: For listening songs and for voice chat

44. Important books

45. Bed sheet & Pillow covers: 1 pair each initially

46. Hangers: Few hangers of lesser weight for hanging clothes initially

47. Nail cutter : Your wish will be available here also

48. Vegetable cutting pad

49. Napkins: Few

50. Suggestion about Lagguage weight: I suggest you load all the bags with 1 kg lesser than actual weight allowed. Since when they weigh at the airport it might differ from our calculation. Then you will be in trouble and finally you will be confused what to take out .If your language exceeds than actual weight allowed and if you want to carry that too they will consider that as an extra bag of language and you will be charged extra 50$ for that
